I am a US Navy Veteran and was on active duty for almost 15 years. I enlisted in 2001 as an Electronics Technician (ET) and took my first set of orders to the USS Chancellorsville (CG-62) homeported in Yokosuka, Japan. After that tour I decided to change job fields (cross-rate) to an Information Systems Technician (IT): I then scored orders to Naval Computer and Telecommunications Station, Sigonella, Sicily, Italy. My follow on tours included:
- Staff for Commander, Seventh Fleet (COMSEVENTHFLT), embarked on-board the USS Blue Ridge (LCC-19), Yokosuka, Japan
- The Joint Intelligence Operations Center (JIOC), Pearl Harbor, Hawaii
- Naval Mobile Construction Battalions 4 & 5, Port Hueneme, Ventura County, California
I started Navy Fleet Sheets during my tour on the USS Blue Ridge in 2009. I reached out for help from one of the smartest innovators I know - my Grandma Dee, who had been making inventive and very comfortable quilts for years. We talked about the unique needs of a sailor’s rack - comfort, ease, and aesthetics - and I supplied her with the materials and the measurements. Once my new sheets arrived on-board it didn’t take long before most of the crew got wind and wanted a set. I wasn’t going to ask Grandma to make hundreds of sets of sheets so I did some research and thus Navy Fleet Sheets was started.
Navy Fleet Sheets has evolved quite a bit since 2009. Since there was also a lot of interest from the Coast Guard as well we have since dropped “Navy” and pressed on as just “Fleet Sheets.” We have also added popular colors and embroidery options to our online retail products. Fleet Sheets online store ships orders domestic/military FPO/APO/international direct to Sailors and their families. Our mission has always been “Improving the Quality of Life at Sea.”
